The Yellow Brick Road

We’re off to see the Wizard
The wonderful Wizard of Oz
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the wonderful things he does
The average age of my followers will likely be able to sing those lyrics and picture images of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Lion, and Tinman dancing down the Yellow Brick Rock on a mission to get to the Emerald City.
Maybe I am the only child on the planet who was scared shitless when watching The Wizard of Oz. The flying monkeys and the Wicked Witch of the West melting to the floor still give me goosebumps. The moral of the story never registered in my impressionable mind. At eight years old, comprehending that The Wizard was a conman pretending to have all the answers was a missed mark for me.
Today, I lay in my lounge chair, rotating my stares at the raindrops dancing on the lake and intermittently browsing through one of my old notebooks. I stopped on a page dated June 14, 2019. The header says, Possibility to Reality; What is the Path? Below the title are a few images I had drawn out: money, a broom, and a cobblestone path. The most interesting part…I do not remember the scribbles initially.
Several circles simulate a road, and in parentheses next to it, I describe the path as “glowing, gold cobblestone.” It leads to a picture of a dollar bill as if at the end of the road. The words one million dollars are written on it. Off to the left side of the cobblestone, there is a picture of a broom. The broom is described as “large and gold; a wispy, hay-like witch’s broom.” The words next to the broom read, “As it sways, it brushes off the stone, and gold dust fills the air.” There are notes in a side column reading, “After walking down the path of gold, I looked back to see a large, black boulder behind me. It is blocking my previous journey. There is no way back.”
Below the above three images, I wrote, “I need to figure this out.” After those words, I opened my eyes widely, looked back up at the lake, and said loudly, “Ya think?!”
There is more. At the bottom of these images, there appear to be directions. “While continuing to visualize my goal, use my 3rd Eye, and move closer and closer to it as you saw in your vision. At first, it might be in the far distance, but it is getting closer. Use your broom to sweep off the dusty trail in front of you, making it easier to accomplish your journey. The cobblestone behind you will turn to black dust as you get closer to meeting your goal. There is no turning back.”
OMG? Huh? I am quickly trying to remember if, in June of 2019, I might have been on an Ambien hangover.
As I finished staring at the notes, I started humming the Wizard of Oz theme. You guys, I seriously cannot make this crap up. No joke.
The last ten minutes of trying to interpret my notes awakened a life-like memory of Dorothy and her pals jaunting down their gold-dusted cobblestone path. They, too, were focused on a goal. They were looking for quick answers from a mysterious shadow behind the curtain. They wanted to return to Kansas. Perhaps “There’s No Place Like Home” is a very different goal than my one-million dollar bill, but the journeys are symbolic.
As I glance up, I notice the sun slowly set to the west. My lawn is a lush, green carpet, just like my own Emerald City. My deck is made of tan cobblestone, which I hadn’t really noticed before. On my left sits my desert rose bush that is so full of life; she might be my Tinman, such heart. I reminisce about my favorite bird, Flasher, who hasn’t returned in nearly a month. He used to be my Cowardly Lion, but his sheer courage and determination made him the best tree climber around. As I look for “my” Scarecrow. I find none except our new lemon tree, which stubbornly will bear no fruit. Chicken!
The neighborhood is silent, and traffic in the distance has slowed to a dull hum which is very unusual when you live one mile off I-75.
Dorothy’s adventure and my journal-title, Possibility to Reality, bear several similarities. She had a goal. Chasing a dream is full of challenges, often jubilant to horrifying and back again. She never gave up. I never give up. She had a robust support system, and they aligned to accomplish the task at hand. I am working on this.
My intuition and manifestation abilities sometimes freak me out because it can be a trip. There’s no guarantee my 3rd eye will conjure up a million bucks, but the concept is clearly on point.
Concentrate on a goal you have. Picture your path in detail, from the images and colors to your feelings. You are designing your very own Yellow Brick Road. Don’t forget to cast your tribe of supporters and shun those who get in your way. You may need to sever relationships with your Wicked Witches and Flying Monkeys. Surround yourself with Glinda’s and happy Munchkins
Oh, and don’t be surprised if you are, in fact, your very own Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Woodsman. We all have our own characters, don’t we?!
I pray that we all eventually find our way to “Kansas.” Why? Because, because, because, because, because…
