What is All Things Wellness?
In building the framework of this book, it made sense to create a framework based on Coach Peggy’s All Things Wellness wheel (ATW WheelTM) tool. The tool focuses on the whole spectrum of health, wellness, and well-being. Within the wheel, there are four quadrants (macro sections): Heart, Spirit, Mind, and Body. Therefore, we chose to use the four macro sections of the wheel as the four chapters in this book.
Within the four quadrants of the wheel, there is a deeper dive. Within those quadrants of the ATW WheelTM tool, there are six different spokes; a total of 24 spokes (micro sections). Each spoke represents a variety of lanes in your life such as coping skills, emotion, creativity, habits, home-work-play, nutrition, and sleep to name a few.
In order to balance your wellness and well-being, and not go sliding off your wellness path, the tool is designed to help you improve TWENTY FOUR areas of your health, wellness, and well-being. WOW, 24?! No wonder it is challenging to stay healthy, happy, wealthy, and wise when there are over two dozen areas to balance. Again, in order for your wellness wagon to stay on course, your wellness wheel must remain free of major punctures and flats, keep rolling, and remain in balance!
What is The Four-Fold Formula?
We mentioned the “formula” a bit in the Introduction. To reference the ATW WheelTM and its quadrants and spokes, we thought let’s use a metaphor in creating the title of this book – metaphors are fun. A formula…A recipe…
The Four-Fold Formula for All Things Wellness was born. The Four” represents the four chapters just like the ATW WheelTM has four quadrants: Heart, Spirit, Mind, and Body.
Each chapter includes six “ingredients” just like the wheel; a total of 24 for the whole book. Depending on content, each of our Contributing Authors’ stories fall beautifully into one of the four chapters based on one or more “ingredients” (spokes).
Getting back to The Four-Four Formula metaphor – the recipe. Let’s bake a cupcake. As you follow the recipe (formula), one of the first steps might be to separate the wet and dry ingredients. We are then instructed to keep adding more components to the recipe such as eggs, vanilla, milk, baking soda, baking powder, flour, etc.
You would agree, if you are missing even one single ingredient, you simply will not have that prize-winning cupcake, right?! Just like the wellness wheel, if we neglect one area of our health and wellness, we miss opportunities to reach our full potential. As well – with our book, The Four-Fold Formula, if we neglect sharing one true story, we reduce our chances of changing or saving lives.
Below is a highlight of the four sections of the ATW WheelTM. In each chapter, you will learn more about the six ingredients within each of the four chapters.
HEART (Love. Care. Share.): emotions, relationships (intimate and extended), stress management, self-care/self-love, coping skills, values and integrity
SPIRIT (Inner and Outer Expansion): purpose, beliefs and faith, rituals, creativity, talents and gifts, harmony
MIND (Thoughts Become Things): mindset (thoughts and behaviors), learning (intellectual), personal awareness and growth, habits (approaches, strategies, routines), home environment (organization and planning), work environment (finances, time management, education, and job satisfaction)
BODY (Your Vessel): Nutrition, Diet, Exercise, Sleep, Medical Care, Lifestyle
