More Than a Name

Hello everyone!

I am so grateful and blessed to be a part of this publication. Thank you, Peggy!

My name is Martiné Emmons, and I am a wife, mother of three, and a passionate entrepreneur. I serve my clients as a Transformational Life Coach, and my fellow entrepreneurs as a Virtual Executive Assistant. I am blessed to have two amazing and unique professions.

As I was thinking of an introduction, my mind went directly to my name. I was born Martiné Marguerite Witherby. My mom, after two years, decided to change my name to Martine ~ which is what I have gone by for most of my life. She thought I would be made fun or be picked on for my given name. Well, mom, guess what?! I was picked on anyway, LOL.

I had a rough beginning in life and definite challenges – as I am sure many of you have as well.

After entering the coaching arena and working on my Master Coach certification, my mentor and I got into a conversation about names. I told him my real name was Martiné and somehow that felt powerful to me. As I said above, my life was pretty rough in the beginning. I went through a lot of abuse and trauma, and somehow when I said my REAL name – I felt a release somehow. Like I am Martiné … not Martine. Martine felt like my past. Martiné is the healed person that I now am.

My journey is now a blessing to me. As my mentor also says often, “You cannot be thankful for the lessons and hate the teacher.”

I am grateful for my story(ies) and happy to be on the other side writing new chapters.

Oh, in case you are wondering about the title to my blog banner ~ Beach Blasts ~ the ocean and its beautiful waves and beaches are my happy place. I can’t describe just how much my heart quickens and my whole BEing comes ALIVE when I simply glimpse the ocean coming into view. It’s magical, mystical, powerful AND peaceful. Please share with me your happy place.

I also love to travel and look forward to a trip to Europe in the very near future. Even though I am in introvert by nature and love my alone time, I also love (and crave) connection. Meeting new people is fun to me, and I cannot wait to experience new cultures and ways of living in Europe and other amazing destinations.

Italy, in fact, has called my name since I was in high school. One of my girlfriends that lived in a different town than me – we used to play hooky and meet up in Sausalito, CA. Yes, I am a California girl. Anyway, she decided one day after a break-up to go to Italy for three months. She immersed herself in the culture and fell in love with the whole area. I, myself, have been in love with Italy since watching “Under the Tuscan Sun.” WOW! The scenery and the romance … ooooo eeee!!

And speaking of connections, I hope all of you are connected to a community that supports and uplifts you. I am sure you have heard the saying by Jim Rohn that “We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.” I believe this is true and that the more positive our surroundings, the better our lives. I am part of three wonderful communities and strive to be a better version of me every day.

I can’t wait to learn more about you. Thank you for reading.
