Happy Easter, Sugah!


Surely the last month or more, you have stumbled across a fair amount of Easter eggs and bunnies and lilies and chics and crosses and a few wooly lambs and ruffly dresses and bonnets and palm branches and then THERE IS SUGAR – awesome chocolatey or marshmallowy or crunchy or chewy or melty, yummy, SUGARY CANDY.

A sugaraholic’s dream. Yes, I am a recovering sugaraholic. I have had to cope with my addiction for decades and though I have managed it marvelously over the last few years, oooh that evil one still pops her ugly head up a few times a year.

Easter is exciting for those celebrating Christianity. It is the foundation of the Christian faith. Jesus, the Son of God, fulfilled a prophecy and died on the cross. The New Testament states through His death, He has given the gift of eternal life in heaven to those who believe in His death and resurrection.

Many people celebrate Easter who are not Christians. They participate in the Easter Egg hunts, taking their unwilling children for family photos and family dinners as well as participating in another Easter ritual. There is a period of fasting prior to Easter called Lent, in which many partake in the public and spiritual support system to focus on a time for repentance and remembrance. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts 40 days ending on Good Friday, the day of Jesus’ crucifixion (this excludes Sundays).

Whether Christian nor not, many peeps will strike off on a 40-day withdrawal of alcohol or sugar or institute other healthy habits such as gratitude journaling or starting a workout program. I say it is too bad we don’t use these 40-day spurts throughout the year. Maybe even quarterly like the seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Are we on to something, my friends?!

I perhaps should celebrate my Sugar “Lent” during the biggest sugar times of the year – from Halloween through Christmas then take a bender break around Easter. Whether it is candy, chocolates, baked good or the like, I love them all. I can enjoy my little sugary loves, but only if I only bring small batches into the casa; itsy bitsy morsels. I KNOW THIS! That is why only one donut makes its way into the house when I am craving a box. ONE. So during the holidays, I avoid the candy isles, ignore check-out end caps, and do my best to stay hunkered down away from the Sugar Monster because holidays can throw me right back into bad- girl behavior, and bam my ass is in bed with migraine madness for days on end.

AND HERE WE ARE – today, I am battling Day 5 of what is for sure partly to blame for my recent Sugar Binge. I did avoid all the stores teasers. I did. And, I can in part, blame this head-pounding hitch a bit on my quarterly migraine botox shots due date is May 1st, and we have had a few storms roll onto the shore from the Gulf, therefore the barometric pressure is crappy, and I have worked a lot, BUT I will throw out there ~~~ consuming a batch of no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies this week may have a bunch to do with my current sorrowful discontent. And the damnedest things, I KNOW WHAT MY “AFTER” WILL LOOK LIKE BEFORE AND DURING MY SUGARHOLIC PARTIES which is no different than any other addict of anything – it IS NOT a surprise.

So now that I have shared my Easter Holiday with you, I sincerely hope you are enjoying your family day and celebrating a time of remembrance, new beginnings, Spring and honoring your faith whatever that is for you.
